Classic Rajasthan

If your image of India is hilltop forts defended by ferocious, turbaned warriors, lavish palaces, and camel safaris in the desert, you’re almost certainly thinking of India’s historical heartland, Rajasthan.  This cultural tour will take you to the must sees of Jaipur, India’s first planned city, and Udaipur, its hilltop palace set on the shores of Lake Pichola.  We’ll also visit some off-the-beaten path jewels such as the massive fort of Kumbalgarh, the elaborate Jain temples of Ranakpur, and Jodhpur, site of what must be India’s most impressive fortress, Mehrangarh.  The common thread through this program will be the warm, open people of Rajasthan, who will share with us their customs, food, and homes.
