Heart of Patagonia
For those with limited time, this trip offers visitors a chance to see some of Patagonia’s most special corners in just over a week. Day hikes out of Chalten take us to the classic viewpoints for FitzRoy and Cerro Torre, the very icons of Patagonia. Our final day here takes us by boat across a corner of Lago Viedma to the glacier of the same name. Much less visited than the overrun Perito Moreno Glacier, this river of ice holds treasures we’ll discover on foot both atop and beneath the glacier. Our sub-glacial walk reveals a color of blue you’ll not likely see anywhere else. We next drive to Estancia El Condor, founded by Patagonia’s most famous outlaw, El Jimmy. Our hike here takes us to his original home, set on the shores of aquamarine Lago San Martin. This is one of the most remote corners of Patagonia, where wild nature truly reigns supreme. We drive to Calafate and fly back to Buenos Aires for a day in this most cosmopolitan of South American cities.
